Tournament Organizer Software FAQs

Since the tournament organizer software distribution began at the end of January, over 1000 tournament organizer software CDs have been given to Decipher CCG sanctioned Tournament Directors. Here are answers to some of the most frequent questions about use of the tournament organizer software that have been handled by Decipher's tournament management team.

1) Which file is my player database?
- If you're a PC user, the file is titled either "Star Wars CCG Organizer.4dd" or "Star Trek CCG Organizer.4dd." If you're a Mac user, the title is the same except the extension is ".data" rather than ".4dd."

2) How do I transfer the data base from one computer to another?
- You will need to copy the player database files to disk and then transfer them to the 2nd computer.

3) How do I correct a mistake?
- Pairings may be modified as discussed in the manual. However, once a round is finished, it is too late to change the data.
- Adding and dropping players in between games is possible, but not once the pairings have been made for that game.
- Player information, such as birthdate and address, can be updated selecting the "Edit" button.

4) How do I send the results to Decipher?
- The software will automatically attempt to establish a PPP connection, if you have selected the "send exported file" option from the Tournament menu at the top of the screen, and have highlighted the saved tournament file you wish to send.

Please be sure to do the following first:
a) Save your tournament results. At the end of inputting the tournament data, you must click the "Finish" button, and follow the prompts to name the file. Using the date of the event helps to distinguish which file you have saved.
b) You must be connected to the Internet to send a file to Decipher. This is not the same as having your email program running. Our software sends the files through a PPP connection, which requires your computer to be online at the time of sending.

5) What if I can't establish a PPP connection?
Try sending the results as an attachment to an email. if you are unable to send the results directly with the software or as a file attachment, another way would be to save the tournament file to a disk and mail that in to Decipher. Mail (as you do all your tournaments mail) to (tournaments@decipher.com)

6) How do I know if my sending the file was successful?
- You will be sent the following message immediately: "File Transfer Successful." If you do not receive this message, you will be emailed a message that tells you there was a problem in the file transmission attempt, if the software established a PPP connection, but failed to get the file intact to Decipher. If you don't receive either message, it is possible that your software never established a PPP connection.
