New Tournament Director Options
First event doesn't have to be OTSD
The posting of last week's story about streamlined methods of becoming a tournament
director stressed that each new director's first tournament should be an OTSD
event. Comments from the community, particularly about OTSD availability, have
led us to reconsider, and to broaden first-time directors' options to include
standard Sealed Deck and booster draft Sealed Deck. And, we've re-written the
article that appeared previously to reflect these changes. See below.
Here's how to become a tournament director for either our Star Trek CCG or
Star Wars CCG games.
To provide you with a way to train that also allows you to count your training
as an officially sanctioned event, we have established two quick, easy ways you
can become an official tournament director. These two methods will replace all
previous ones. Here is all you have to do:
Method #1
Sealed Deck-assisted sanctioning for "do-it-yourselfers"
You may sign yourself up as a director, and even assign yourself a temporary ID#.
You can download copies of score cards, as well as the Official Tournament Director's
Guide, from our website. Using this method, your first tournament must be any
sanctioned Sealed Deck format. This means you could hold a standard Sealed Deck
event, a booster draft Sealed Deck event, or an Enhanced Sealed Deck tournament
using Decipher's Official Tournament Sealed Deck product.
Each case of the OTSD product contains a master copy of the score cards for these
events and a basic introduction to running a Decipher event. You will find the
Sealed Deck Padd Display card in the Star
Trek CCG Tournaments area and Sealed Deck Command Card in the Star
Wars CCG Tournaments area and we will add the OTSD basic introduction document
as soon as we can.
You must meet all the basic requirements to have your first event sanctioned.
You must post the event to our Web site Tournaments locator and meet the 8-player
minimum. Once you've done that, the results can be used to finalize your application.
When Decipher receives your first set of sanctionable results, we will immediately
send you the directors start-up pack, including the new director's kit, a director's
T-shirt, the software, and a prize support for your next event. Your ID# will
then become permanent, so don't give it out to others!

Method #2
Volunteer-assisted sanctioning, for "a little extra help"
Contact one of your regional Ambassadors or Squadron Members to be signed-up as
a director. If that volunteer approves you, he or she will assign you a temporary
ID#. He or she can also help you with a temporary set of score cards, or with
downloading a copy of our director's guide, as well as give you ideas for promoting
and supporting your events. You may use your ID# to run any sanctioned format
event, provided that your first event is a Sealed Deck tournament. The volunteer
can check the results for clear and accurate information if you like, to make
sure the results are sanctionable. When we receive your first set of sanctionable
results, we will send you the directors start-up pack, including the new director's
kit, a director's T-shirt, the software, and a prize support for your next event.
Your ID# will then become permanent, so don't give it out to others!
