[EviLore’s "The Worst Cards in STCCG" is a review of some, well, really bad cards! As always, submissions of ideas on future TWCIST articles are appreciated. Please include, with the name of the card, a reason or two on why you think it’s such a bad card, and I’ll give you the credit for the suggestion. Comments welcome, but realize that’s this is just my opinion, not yours. ;-) Thanks!]
TWCIST Issue #1: Raise the Stakes
Our historic first issue is on the only banned card in the game, "Raise the Stakes’ :
Raise The Stakes
Lore: Weekly poker game aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise honed the tactical and bluffing skills of many officers.
Game Text: Your opponent must forfeit the game OR agree the eventual winner may randomly select and keep one card from loser’s 60-card deck.
Card Image: An overhead shot of one of the many poker games played by the crew. Nothing special, but the image is decent. A 70%.
Card Lore: Nothing really special, just describes something that happened from the series, although doesn’t accurately describe the card’s game text very well. A 58%
Game Text: This is the main problem with the card. No card should involve letting someone keep one of your cards at the end of a game. Decks made totally out of commons, which, by some chance, beat a rare-filled deck have a great chance of getting one of your hard-earned cards, yet if you win, you get a common. It’s the only card banned from STCCG tournaments, for good reason. Adding to the fact that it’s cumulative, to make its abuse more easily accomplished, a horrid 0%.
Worth Using?: Almost every player would refuse to let someone use this card, and you can’t use them in tournaments anyway. A 3%.
Average: 32.75%. There’s good reason it’s banned.
