New Star Trek CCG Rule Affects Play Immediately -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- by Major Rakal Star Trek CCG Intelligence Officer -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As we've been developing the rules and mechanics for space station Deep Space 9, we've identified some additions and revisions to the basic rules -- particularly related to outposts and stations -- that will be implemented in the first DS9 card set. One of these rules changes in particular we are "accelerating" into the game right now, because it helps with the ship-dilemmas-at-your-outpost interpretation problem, helps add balance to the Patrol Neutral Zone strategy, and improves the general storyline of attempting missions altogether. The new rule is this: Missions may not be attempted directly from an outpost or station. * * Planet missions have always required an Away Team on the planet; * * now, space missions require a crew aboard a ship. (The ship need * * not meet staffing requirements, which only affect ship movement.) * Conceptually, outposts and stations do not have all of the specialized equipment a ship would have for attempting missions, and an outpost or station cannot nimbly maneuver around a spatial anomaly, wrap a warp field around an errant moon, etc. There will now be no question of whether a dilemma encountered at a mission where the outpost is located will have any effect; there will always be a ship involved in the mission attempt to "trigger" a ship-related dilemma. THIS RULE IS OFFICIAL (AS THOUGH PRINTED IN THE FAQ) AND EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, 2/3/98, FOR ALL TOURNAMENT PLAY. TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS SHOULD BEGIN USING THIS RULE IMMEDIATELY. It is recommended that you announce the new rule at the beginning of all tournaments until it is incorporated into a revised FAQ document.
