Exciting Blaze of Glory Tournaments and Important Rules
Change
GenCon
and San Diego Comic
Con are about to get much more exciting for fans of the Star Trek CCG. In
addition to Open and Invitational Qualifiers, and the much-anticipated Team tournaments,
we are now announcing a special Blaze of Glory sealed deck format for both conventions.
Players of the Blaze of Glory sealed deck tournament will receive: Players will
then use these cards to construct a deck under the normal 30-30 rule, which will
include a functional battle side deck. With fewer dilemmas available in the Sealed
Deck environment, you can expect those side decks to see a lot of use!
Remember, as this tournament is based on Starter Deck II, you will be required
to seed a Memory Wipe as described in that product's rulebook: "The
Memory Wipe event implements a special play environment when playing Starter Deck
II vs. Starter Deck II. You and your opponent each seed the card and agree not
to nullify it. This allows each player's cards of different affiliations to mix
without having to use one or more Treaty cards." Thus cards such as
Intruder Alert! and Kevin Uxbridge cannot be used to nullify the Memory Wipe.
Other regular tournament rules will apply. In addition, we are announcing the
following ruling which will be effective immediately in all tournament play (but
is of particular importance in Sealed Deck formats): Seeding
- No player may seed a mission with cards that cannot be legally seeded under
missions. This includes (but is not limited to) sites, equipment, interrupts,
events, and personnel. If it is discovered during play that a player has illegally
seeded any missions in this manner, they immediately forfeit the game. They would
receive a 0 (-100), and their opponent a 2 (+100). Special game text on
specific cards can override this rule. For example, Cryosatellite, Search for
Survivors and Mirasta Yale have game text allowing personnel to be seeded legally
under missions. Search for Weapons allows the seeding of certain equipment ("hand
weapons") as described. Q-Flash is a doorway that may seed under a mission according
to its game text. True "mis-seeds" are not grounds for forfeiture. For
example, artifacts discovered under space missions or space dilemmas under planet
missions are examples of mis-seeded cards, but are not grounds for forfeiture,
as dilemmas and artifacts are card types that may be seeded under missions. Also,
cards seeded legally cannot be made "illegal" later in the game. For example,
using a Pla-Net to discard a Cryosatellite will not make any personnel seeded
with the artifact grounds for forfeiture.
Again, although
this ruling has not yet appeared in a Current Rulings document, it is effective
immediately in all tournaments, so spread the word. We hope to see you
at one of these exciting Blaze of Glory tournaments in August! Evan Lorentz Mot the Barber (mot@decipher.com) date: 28 July, 1999
