New Sealed Deck Experience for The Borg!

With the release of The Borg expansion for the Star Trek Customizable Card Game in a few weeks, the Voyager-only environment is about to explode with new gameplay. Sealed deck tournaments are no exception. The Borg expansion re-introduces the Borg affiliation with a fresh look and feel. Since Borg-affiliation decks require a specific mix of cards to run efficiently, we are introducing Open Trading Warp Speed Sealed Deck events. These events will give players a chance to trade with other players during the tournament in order to customize their decks to their liking. This will create an environment where players can effectively use the Borg affiliation if they trade for the necessary cards.

How to run an Open Trading Warp Speed Sealed Deck Tournament

Like any other sealed deck tournament, players will purchase a specific amount of unopened product. The suggested mix is four packs of The Borg and one Voyager Starter Deck for each player. After players receive their product, they will have 45 minutes to construct their deck. During this time, players are allowed to trade with any other player in the tournament, using only the cards that came from their packs. All trading must be done on a 1-for-1 basis (example: you can't trade 5 of your cards for 10 of your opponents). Players don't have to trade at all, it is just an option.

Once the 45-minute deck construction time has elapsed, the tournament is run like a normal Warp Speed Sealed Deck event. The only other difference is that players may trade with other tournament players in between rounds. No additional time will be given to do this, but players may trade up until the next pairings are announced. Trading may not disrupt games in progress.

When posting an Open Trading Warp Speed Sealed Deck tournament, be sure to indicate this format in the comments section. This Open Trading format is currently only available for the Star Trek Customizable Card game and will count towards a player's regular sealed deck rating.

Necessary cards for playing the Borg affiliation

Unlike most other affiliations, the Borg have strict deck building restrictions. There are some cards that are absolute necessities if you want to play Borg in a Warp Speed tournament. They include:

• A Borg facility (usually the Borg Outpost)
• One planet mission worth at least 35 points (for Assimilate Planet objective)
• Establish Gateway
• Assimilate Planet

All of these are either common or uncommon and should be relatively easy to trade for if you don't get them in your packs. If you are trying to play the Borg affiliation and can't find these cards, you may want to think about playing a different affiliation.

In addition to the necessary cards above, here are some other useful cards in a Borg affiliation deck:

• Plenty of drones
• Borg ships
• Adapt: Negate Obstruction
• Borg Vinculum

This format will be used at the DragonCon and GenCon UK Pre-Release events coming up soon!
