Qo'noS open report (mucho text, get your reading glasses) ... Takket ... 07.22-18:20
37 (I think) players showed up for the Michigan open from Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, and Canada (and I think some people from Ohio too). I made the long perilous 4 mile journey to Garden City for the event. It was one of those "if I had just done this (or not done this!)!" kinda days.

I was playing a Romulan deck that could steal any 40 or more, or universal mission by the 2nd turn, (usually the first). With a few exceptions (Betazed invation, Investiage Legend...). But yes I could do Restore Victims and Hunt for DNA...

Game 1 vs. Mike Ellingson

He seeded Establish relations (the one that lets you DL a NA when you solve it), and started piling a bunch of cards under it. I figured he was going to Ajur it, then DL Boratus. He then last seeds a couple cards and I'm curious if he's bypassing too. He AMSs Riva and Satie. He seeds Wormhole negotiations so so I seed my BPD there and AMS Selok and Tagus (I used lots of AMS and support personel in my deck to get missions skills first turn depending on what opponent seeded.) I ASPed and DHed 2 more people with treachery, and spacedoored for a battle cruiser, downloading D'vano with the cruiser to my outpost (I used both the romulan outpost mission IIs). I moved to wormhole negotiations and attempted, popping his Q. He rearranged. I ended my turn. During his turn He breaks out with a bunch of high integrity people. I'm thinking, enough of this, so I discard QtR and grab writ, download brunt to my ship using TMW, and had him DL another Writ. My opponent thought the game just ended if he bypassed on Writ (resulting in a 0-0 game), so he bypassed anyway, knowing he was going to lose. Unfortunately for him the Td informed him it was a 100-0 loss.

Pros: I was up 2(+100) and got to sit at the first place table for my second game, woohoo!
Cons: I wouldn't be at the table for long! And I wanted to steal his Wormhole negotiations :(

Game 2 vs. Jeff "Ender Wiggin" Jarvis

Jeff had an all gamma deck w/ 4 Survey Star Systems. So needless to say I was drooling. I AMSed for 2 of the mission skills, and Dr. R'Mor DLed from TMW provided the rest. I spacedoored for battle cruiser and DLed D'vano again. I finally drew a wormhole, and moved to the Cover Installation II, using that and a wormhole interrupt to go to gamma. I then defended homeworld for Kira, reporting her to the ship with TMW so I had the Cardassian icon to attempt the mission. I seeded some dumb dilemmas and my BPD at the first SSS (I think an edo probe and a balancing act). I stole the first SSS for 50 (30+10AMS+10 BPD), then moved to the second where I blew by my dead end and in the pale moonlight for another 40, bringing me up to 90. I was out of range so I cloaked. Jeff figured I was going to steal the third SSS my next turn. He had already tried scouting there once, and his scout was stuck on a conumdrum. My battle cruiser was cloaked by I had an uncloaked d'deridex in the alpha and he had no way of attacking it. He used a second scout to score 50 points on the missions I had completed with estalbish gateway while I played cards and drew. I couldn't do the third SSS because after the conumdrum I had a scout encounter QSL there, so I was waiting for a wormhole to get my d'deridex in the alpha w/ another engineer to gamma so I could pass the combo. Jeff flinched first though, and tried to establish gateway at the mission. I downloaded the scout with selok aboard and both his scouts were now in stasis. Next turn moved the battle cruiser over and did the mission for 40 more points. He had no The Big Picture so the game was over

full win, 100-50
4(+50)

Pros: My deck worked the way it was supposed to.
Cons: nobody else I'd play for the rest of the day had stealable missions.

Game 3 vs. someone from Iowa (missed the name)

He was playing a DQSS deck, and like most DQSS decks since he was heavy on seeds he had FLI/scow under every mission and mission debriefing. I wasn't going to try to steal because all his missions were 30 or 35 point DQ missions. We duped Reinitialize warp reaction, so I put my BPD disease there (which was a bad thing to do), cause he seeded 3 dilemmas there too. I tried doing Investigate sighting II and got stuck on the FLI/scow/mission debreifing.

His first turn he plays/downloads about 17 ships, 16 Janeways, 12 7 of nines, 84 Neelix's, 11 delta flyers, a bakers dozen vidiian harvesters, a Darth Vader, an Executer, some pokemon thing, a nine of diamonds, a ten of clubs, a cow, a chicken, a Ford Mustang, a box of cracker jacks, a kitchen sink, and a partridge in a pear tree.

I've got to say first of all, I should have downloaded my containment field but I forgot. But second of all, this was my first game vs. a DQSS deck and the rate that people were flying onto the table was just rediculous, and every one of them has 5 or 6 skills.

He sends the flyer over and hits conumdrum, and he's got no way of going to alpha to attack my battle cruiser so he's stuck. Next Voyager comes over, and those 5 zillion people he downloaded are put in stasis by SE/QSL. I'm feeling pretty good now, for about 10 seconds. He STPs voyager back to his hand, and using the report with crew thing has everyone back on the table in about 2 or 3 turns. Meanwhile I'm towing scows around, and finally do Investigate sighting II for 40 points with AMS. I try explore typhon expanse II, but get stuck on dead end after towing another scow. If I had seeded my BPD under ISII, I would have had 50 on that mission. and been able to solve ETEII. I thing I tried another mission and he eventually won while I was towing scows around.

Pros: I used a senior staff meeting on a FLI/scow combo
Cons: SSM only discards the FLI.

final 100-35 (I lost 5 on a Quinn)
4(+85)

Game 4 vs. David Nix

He finished second, so i don't want to blab about his deck, suffice it to say we duped a mission. I tried it and hit his maglock. On his turn, he swooped in with mission specialists, and too it with my BPD for 55 points. That was a major ouch I never recovered from, especially since my next turn I was going to have the 3 officer with suna and defend homeworld...

final 100-0
4(-15)

Pros: I really should have had 55 points
Cons: I had 0

Game 5 vs. David Hyttenrach

This was the kind of game that can make a grown man cry. He had no stealable missions, but he did have a DS9 at Bajor. I seeded an ops there with the intent to steal it. Dumb move number one was that I put my spacedoor at the outpost farthest away from DS9. His deck was really slow. a staight up play one/draw one deck. I had 5 or 6 people out first turn with AMS, ASP, defend homeworld, R'mor, and battle cruiser + d'vano. I could have started doing missions but decided I wanted to take his Nor. It takes me 2 turns to get there with my battle cruiser, and oops! I have no VIP! I meet my d'deridex halfway back with koval on board, and move both ships to his nor. All he has out is Leeta, vedek sorad, and vedek dax (I said his deck was slow, I had 2 staffed ships and he had 3 people). I sent thei to ops first to kill vedek sorad, and that was dumb move number 2. Idiot me didn't even pay attention to the fact that DS9 was seeded at BAJOR. He flips defend homeworld, and here comes every card in his deck. if it wasn't for DQSS decks it was probably the biggest download I've ever seen. 4 ships, and a zillion people. Thei gets axed. I decided against taking anyone else off my battle cruiser for the moment. I go back to my d'deridex, cloak, and run home with my tail between my legs. Now, mind you, if i had just done my missions I proably would have won before he could even staff a ship, but I got greedy :( I get back to investigate sighting II, and attempt. I hit his AFSWBN, and for seemingly no reason he kills R'Mor, who had none of the skills needed to do the mission. If he had killed Takket, I couldn't have done the mission. I'm thinking... ooooo kkkk that was stupid... then I hit my own self seeded BPD, which he obviously didn't even know was there. I smugly pick up my stack to show him MED/SCI/SEC, when I notice my only Science, R'Mor, is sitting in my discard pile. But he wasn't lonely for long, cause everyone else joined him. That was the proverbial salt in the wound. At that point, it was academic, he scored 100 points a turn or 2 later.

Pros: My deck should have whooped up.
Cons: My deck got whooped on

final 100-0
4(-115)

Game 6 vs. someone from Buffalo (missed the name)

I wanted to break even. He was playing a straight up dominion founder/vorta deck. I put dead end and BPD at the founder homeworld with the intent on swooping in there for the 50 point steal after I scored 50 on my own. I could steal this mission second turn, but its REALLY card intensive, so I left it be for now. He had the alpha mission that could be solved my nog, or QSOK, or some dominion stuff. He moved a ship through bajoran wormhole and kept trying to scan it. I DLed panel overload and scanner interference with QtR. Killed one of his 2 computer skill, so the scan was nullified by SI. He then played genetronic, so I nixed that with the panel overload. Then he scanned rescue founder back in gamma. Panel overload was gone, but I seeded a dead end there with scanner interference, taking a big risk, since I had a dead end under his homeworld already. He hit the dead end at rescue founder, and next turn went to his homeworld. He attempted, and my dead end went bye bye :( he nabbed my BPD and a microvirus, and the mission for 55. He moved for rescue founder, and I wormholed him to delta. He used OWR to get back, and tried to move again, so I wormholed him to alpha, and he moved back again, but had used enough of his range that he couldn't reach rescue founder.

Meanwhile, I'm hung up on shakas at 3 different missions. I even took a run through the OWRed wormholes to delta quadrent and hit one there. I looked perilous. He did rescue founder to get himself to 85, and came to alpha and did the QSoK or Nog or dominion stuff mission for 115, but I downloaded the big picture. He attempted a construct depot, and hit SE/QSL. I desperately looked through my deck and had ONE universal personel left to staff the scout. His ship was put in stasis, and he had no one else out. All hope was not lost!!!

I finally drew Vreenak, and Tomalak for 2 diplomacy. I also grabbed Brunt with writ/TMW just for the sake of having the people. I had 35 points (I forget how I got it.) I moved to Covert Installation II, and passed shaka. Vreenak got killed by AFSWBN, but Brunt was the man, coming through with the Law for Implication. I had 70 points now (mission + AMS) and was beaming up my people when time was called :( The sad part was I had enough range to get to another 30 point mission, and after the edo probe there was discarded, all that was left was a chula:the game which brunt would have passed for 100 points, and the game (since I would have had a planet and a space mission) :(

Pros: 15 more seconds and I would have won
cons: 15 more seconds and I would have won

modified loss 100-70 (The Big Picture)
4(-145)

Well that's my lenglthy report! Thanks to everyone who ran and played in the tournament, and congrats to Kris, the winner.
