AUSTRALASIAN CONTINENTALS SUMMARY! txt ... Senator Pat ... 08.05-08:34

Where to Start?
Well placings first:
1. Stuart Lauder (Brisbane)
2. Nicholos Lippiatt (Canberra)
3. Ian Graves (Adelaide)(State Champ)
4. Pat Palmer-Thomas (me) (Sydney)(State Runner Up)
5. Stephen Livanes (Brisbane)(State ???)(2nd in the World)
6. Mithcell O'Brien (Sydney)(State Champ)
7. Tristan Rowland (Brisbane)(State ???)
8. Shane Kay (near Brisbane)

There were 14 in the second day 8 coming from the first day and 6 state champs / runners up.

As you can see the top 4 came from 4 different cities which was cool.

Nicholos Lippiatt the player who came second has been a surprise as he has never won a tournament in his life and is just 14 (as far as I know).

DECKS WE SAW:
1. Stuart
Federation DQSS with Ho'ghan

2. Nicholos
Ferengi

3. Ian
don't know

4. me
Romulan free, Cargo run with Ajur and Boratus and SSM.

5. Stephen
Friendly Fire, End transmission

6. Mitch
DQ Fed, no DQSS, speedy

7. Tristan
Q - bypass

8. Shane Kay
This one is a bit too origional to give out yet.

OTHER COOL THINGS:
At 5 - 8 players used Hor'ghan

Stephen Livines is not the God Tristan makes him out too be.

Sydney players came first and second on day one.

John Medland, the player who came first in day one came down with food poisioning from Pizza Hut and didn't play day two.

The continentals should be in Sydney next year cause we rock!

The name of my deck was "Snooooze, need more snooze" a classic quote from the Simpons sumarising how I I've been feeling the last 48 hours.

Writ was not used once throughout the entire day (as far as I know).

DQSS is'nt as monopolising as I thought it would be.

Shane Kay has a fantasic deck that he has put together which is very cheesy and very clever.

There may be a video avalible (don't quote me) on the decipher site of a few things including the final submitted by Tristan.

Don't go and see Final Fantasy when you still have to do your decklist and your dilemmas as well as have a few practise games.

Big Breakfasts are the way to go, small Lunch.

We haven't got our trophies yet or out online vouches but this is not a big issue with the people I spoke to.

Computer Crash is an evil card, lost me two games.

Apparently Stuart won on his second turn in the final using Ho'Ghan, this is from word of mouth as Mitch and I had a plane to catch.

There needs to be a counter to the Pheonix, it got me 10 pionts in every game.

Keep it Simple is my advice, the complex decks tended to lose games for unpredictable reasons.

It's Only a Game will be in most good players decks within 2 months (can't say why).

That's about it,
I'll check responses tomorrow for any questions you may have.
Pat Palmer-Thomas
