Ever since the Star Wars CCG Reflections set
was announced, players and collectors alike have
speculated on the prospects for a similar Star
Trek CCG set. The Star Trek CCG product lineup for
2000 has now been revealed and, indeed, we can
expect to see our own "Reflections" set around
July. While we haven't yet settled on a name for
the set, or even exactly how many foils it will
contain, the format will be similar: 18-card packs
with one foil version of an existing rare card,
plus a random mix of 17 cards from all the regular
expansions from Premiere through The Dominion.
The next question: which cards will be made
into foils? That hasn't been decided yet either,
but they will be selected from among the most
popular rare cards in the Star Trek CCG universe,
and we'd like you to tell us which cards you would
pick. Our survey form lists each of the more than
400 rare cards in Premiere, Alternate Universe,
Q-Continuum, First Contact, Deep Space Nine and
The Dominion (plus the ultra-rare Future
Enterprise from Alternate Universe). Just click on
the boxes for up to 114 cards in the list, enter
your information, and submit. (Only one vote per
person, please! Votes of more than 114 cards will
be discarded.) We'll collect survey results until
2/15/00. While we can't guarantee that all the
top-rated cards from the poll will make up the
final set of foils, the results will be taken into
consideration as we make the final decisions.
Whether you want to create a striking
collection, build foil-filled decks or both, or
just have a favorite card or two that you would
like to see in foil versions, we'd like to hear
from you. I'm starting my own list of favorites
today! |
Here are a few things you might want to
consider as you make your choices:
- Your favorite cards or characters.
There are probably cards you include in nearly
every deck. A foil Data or Dukat may be tops on
your list, or maybe a time-honored favorite like
the Betazoid Gift Box.
- The most powerful cards. Many cards
are popular for their power in the game. A foil
Supernova or Devidian Door could let you destroy
a mission or report your crucial personnel with
a little extra flair.
-
The most striking card images. Many
players' favorite foils from Blaze of Glory were
the ships, with their glowing ports and
nacelles, but every card type has candidates for
truly spectacular imagery in a foil version.
Imagine a spaceline filled with foil missions
such as Wormhole Negotiations, a shiny Great
Link setting off your Founders' homeworld or
asking a captive how many foil lights he sees on
your Interrogation.
- Affiliation balance. Just as the Star
Wars CCG Reflections foils were split evenly
between Light Side and Dark Side, we don't want
to neglect any of the Star Trek CCG
affiliations. Consider a mix of good personnel
and ships in every border color.
- Card type balance. Think beyond
personnel and ships. Events, interrupts,
dilemmas and doorways in foil will spice up any
deck or collection.
