Star Trek Customizable Card Game:
Silver Border Cards
by Carol Wisely
May 29 1997 - We have been receiving a large amount of feedback
from players of the Star Trek Customizable Card Game concerning the
use of silver-border cards in tournament play. It was always Decipher's
intention to ban these cards from sanctioned events. That is the usual
nature of Collector's sets in the CCG industry and is one of the reasons
why the sets can be purchased for far less than the cost of a complete
set of white border or black border cards.
However, we do recognize the need to increase tournament competition
for this game. It is a high priority for us, along with the renewed
development effort associated with the signing of the new license. We
know that you, the players, want to see increased attendance at tournaments
and the opportunity to face more opponents. This, coupled with a great
product, is the lifeblood of the hobby.
Therefore, we have decided to allow the silver border cards that were
part of the Star Trek: The Next Generation Customizable Card Game Collector's
Set to be used in sanctioned tournament play, and will be amending the
tournament guide accordingly. We will also allow them to be used at
the Regional and Open qualifiers for the 1997 World Championships.
We reserve the right to review this decision in the future, but would
give plenty of advance notice if we felt the need to revert back to
the original ruling.
We have made this decision based on your feedback about the negative
effect this would have on tournament attendance. We all want to see
vigorous, healthy tournament turn-outs for this game. We look forward
to seeing that grow throughout 1997 as our sanctioned scheme begins
to roll out!
