[main navigation][star trek main navigation][Image] [side navigation] [side navigation] Sealed Deck From Jason Winter : Q@decipher.com September 1996 The format was a standard 3-round Decipher Swiss Tournament. Each player got one starter deck, a premeire expansion pack, and a Warp Pack. Then, each participant got any three common premere cards, either from their own set or from a group of commons I provided. This provided 90 cards, which you needed to pare down to a 60-card deck. I don't see why an Alternate Universe pack wouldn't work just as well. Treaty: Romulan/Klingon Interrupt (8) Countermanda Full Planet Scan Incoming Message - Federation Palor Toff - Alien Trader Rogue Borg Mercenaries x2 Scan Ship Seizure The deck is fairly straightforward. In my initial cards, I only got 5 Federation personnel, including the obligatory Scotty from the Warp Pack, Richard Galen (who didn't match up well with any of my missions), and Mot the Barber! Needless to say, I decided to go with a Romulan/Klingon deck, which I even had a Treaty for. I was short on Klingon leaders, so I grabbed Batrell for one of my extras. I was astounded at some of the plays and counterplays my opponents threw in my face. Don't they have any respect for Q? In the first game, I could only get out a Zibalian Transport and the other players finished their games before either of us could score a point! My opponent had actually Devil-ed my Treaty and Countermanda-ed me when I tried to get it back! But I did manage to get a few personnel together and score a quick 100 points. At one point in the second game, my opponent put a Klingon in a Yridian Shuttle and left it all by itself. Of course, I went over with my Mercenary Ship and blew it up -- and he played a Klingon Death Yell! The third game was a tense, drawn-out affair. He red-shirted a mission and hit my Alien Parasites, whereupon I promptly completed his mission for him. The only ship I could get out was a Romulan Scout Ship, but he was playing an all-Romulan deck -- he couldn't attack me! I won that final game by the score of 100 to 95. All in all, it was a tremendously fresh change of pace, and you should try it sometime! If you do, test this deck out against your carefully constructed deck and see how it matches up.
