Heroes of the (Romulan) Empire
Frank Miller
3rd Place - Kansas City Grand Slam 2000
09/06/00
When the Trouble with Tribbles expansion came out, I couldn't
wait to try to kill Kirk. I decided that the pleasure of assassinating
him should not belong to the Klingons only, and knew that
the Tal Shiar could hire some thugs to do the job. (See
the note following the deck listing to learn exactly how it
works.)
This deck won 4 out of 5 games at the 2000 Kansas City Grand Slam for a
third place finish. Kirk was killed early in each one of those winning
games.

how it works:
Kirk can usually be assassinated quickly and easily. By the
time you've seeded everything, K-7 and Kirk will have been
downloaded on the spaceline. The mission specialists to download
are Narik and Dr. Farek.
On the first turn, close Spacedoor to download the Xepolite
Freighter, staff it with the Mission Specialists, and start
moving towards the Nor. Play a Tribble card on K-7. On the
second turn, download Barry Waddle (a Non-aligned navigation
personnel) in place of your card play at the Cargo Bay on
the Nor. Pick up Barry Waddle with the Xepolite Freighter
and head for Agricultural Assessment. Once there, you can
discard a seeded Q the Referee to download Temporal Vortex
(if it isn't already in your hand) to time travel to Sherman's
Peak. The compatible Non-aligned Xepolite Freighter can dock
with K-7, Barry Waddle can walk onto the station and then
use his special download to plant a Tribble Bomb. I was usually
able to kill Kirk in 4-5 turns with this deck. All of the
missions have Klingon icons so that once the Hero of the Empire
objective is complete, the point value of each of those missions
is increased by 10, while your opponent's Alpha Quadrant missions
are reduced by 10. It pays to alter history.
While you're trying to assassinate Kirk, the Romulans can
start reporting and solving missions. I liked to discard Defend
Homeworld to download Koval so that he could serve as a "moving
outpost" for my Tal Shiar. Another nice feature in this deck
is the use of Q the Referee to "recycle" Referee Icon cards
-- there were very few things that this deck could not counter.
