Q'S TENT SIDE DECK (13) Dead End
The first-turn jumpstart is complex but very effective when it works. During the seed phase, I would always try to get Deliver Supplies within 8 span of a Collect Sample; this isn't really too hard. The Ferengi Trading Post and its associated cards go at the Collect Sample nearest to Deliver Supplies; self-seed a Mission Fatigue there, to be encountered first. Mordoc and Qol are the mission specialists, of course. Turn 1 is designed to work like this: I use my regular card play to download a B'rel to the outpost, Writ of Accountability to download Brunt, Assign Support Personnel to download Prak, Defend Homeworld to download Ruk, Temporal Micro-Wormhole to download Dr. Telek R'Mor, and 1st Rule of Acquisition to download Grand Nagus Zek, who plays for free at the Tower of Commerce. I then play a Holodeck Door from my hand to download Vic Fontaine to the Trading Post, and transfer his program to the D'Kora Marauder. Brunt staffs the B'rel and attempts Collect Sample, being stopped by Mission Fatigue since he doesn't have the requirements by himself. Vic Fontaine, whose program is running aboard the D'Kora Marauder, downloads Q's Planet. I seed Odo's "Cousin," Punishment Box, and Dead End under Q's Planet, to be encountered in that order. The D'Kora Marauder, staffed with all the personnel except Brunt and Grand Nagus Zek, moves to Q's Planet (using zero RANGE). Prak, Qol, and Ruk beam down to attempt. Qol stops to investigate Odo's "Cousin"; Vic downloads a Ferengi Conference, which in turn downloads Gaila (5 skill dots), Lumba (4 dots), and Deanna on The Trois (2 dots). Lumba special-downloads Nilva right away. Prak gets put in the Punishment Box, stopping him; Vic downloads another Ferengi Conference, which downloads Mr. Quark (5 dots) and Jake and Nog (6 dots). Ruk gets stopped by Dead End, and--you guessed it--Vic downloads a Ferengi Conference, which downloads Gral and Leck. Now everybody but The Trois and Jake and Nog walk out of the Tower of Commerce. Gaila special-downloads Hidden Figher to download Quark's Treasure and Establish Landing Protocols. The Away Team gets on Quark's Treasure and takes off, moving to Q's Planet. Somebody beams over to help Dr. Telek R'Mor and Mordoc staff the Marauder. At this point, what happens all depends on the layout of the spaceline. If the outpost location and Ferenginar were originally adjacent, and now separated only by Q's Planet, the Marauder now goes to Ferenginar. The Trois and Jake and Nog switch to Federation mode and attempt Deliver Message (they have the mission requirements, so Lack of Preparation is no fear). If they get stopped, fine; Vic will download something. After finishing up at Deliver Message, or if there is another mission in between Q's Planet and Deliver Message, the Marauder returns to the outpost location, along with Quark's Treasure. Everybody but one crew member beams off Quark's Treasure. That crew member attempts Collect Sample; s/he gets stopped by the clause that Mission Fatigue added to the next dilemma, and Vic downloads another card (it's the new dilemma, not Mission Fatigue as such, doing the stopping). This might be another B'rel, depending on what dilemma is coming up next and the personnel assortment available, but the last Vic download for the turn is always Cyrus Redblock, being sure that his program can be transferred to the Marauder. (If I have a second Holodeck Door in hand, I would often add a holodeck to the Trading Post or the B'rel.) End turn 1 with at least 5 points (from Odo's "Cousin") and plenty of peeps in play. |
