Playing The Dominion: Four Basic Decks
06/99 - Austin Darksabre Chandler
I like the complexity of running The Dominion, and the potentially staggering
power this race can unleash. For those who think it's hard to use, I'd like to
make The Dominion more understandable and easy to play. I've identified four main
Dominion deck-styles: By looking at each of four basic Dominion deck designs -
Standing Ground, Anti-White, Black Hole, Invasion - I'll show you how easy it
can be to play this affiliation .
Standing Ground At Home Deck:
This deck doesn't need any rares, is quite fun to play with, and is the most simple
of Dominion decks to build. It's a great starting place. The cards you need are...
- All the following should be seeded -
Colony Preparations x 2
Subjugate Planet x 2
Intelligence Operation
HQ Secure Homeworld (all other missions are left to your discretion)
- Q-Tent
- Colony
- Any Dominion Personnel needed to complete the above Objectives + whatever missions
you choose besides those named above.
Anti-White Addiction Deck:
One of the biggest pains for the Dominion is White Addicted. Most Jem Hadar are
addicted, with the exception of Goran'Agar. That leaves only Vorta, Founders,
and those two uni-civilians.
Many players decide not to enter the Alpha Quadrant due to the lack of ground
support, and this type of deck is more commonly used in conjunction with the Black
Hole. However this deck can become a fierce Space Armada Deck, which can level
the Alpha Quadrant if you wish.
To make this deck, the following should be put into your deck to optimize you
chances of winning.
- Q-Tent with whatever you wish to put in it
- Colony - to get some free points
- All Unique Founders - they all possess some nice skills
- A couple of Flight Of The Intruder - in case...
- All unique Vortas - they also possess some nice skills
- A couple of civilians, like 2 Zyrees, and 2 Orinthars - since they possess
Biology and Geology, respectively, which helps out with some dilemmas.
- A couple of the uni-vorta Eris
- Engineering Tricorder + Medical Tricorder - to get those extra skills
- A few hand weapons
And to take the battle to the Alpha Quadrant:
- Bajoran Wormhole
- More ships
- Metaphasic Shielding - use that science for some good
If you do include the above cards in your Anti-White Deck, you should be able
to succeed with the luck of the draw of course.
Black Hole - Destroyer of the Alpha Quadrant Deck:
Most people put this type of deck into use with the above Anti-White Addiction
Deck. Since you are staying in the Gamma Quadrant, you won't be affected - that
is, if your opponent doesn't have his own surprises. Q Rearranging is very good
at changing the tables with this deck, as well as halting it with Revolving Door,
or Persistence of Memory. Design your so it doesn't hinge solely on the destruction
of your enemy. Make sure your dilemmas are tough, and also that you have some
counters. Here are the cards I usually put into my own deck.
- Q-Tent
- Black Hole
- AU Doorway - to counter Revolving Door
- Temperal Rifts - Time Rifting your opponent's crew slows him/her down, and
allows the Black Hole to affect him/her
- Horga'hn
Nothing will make you the most hated person in town more than this deck. Trust
me, I haven't played against this type of deck, but my fellow players have and
really didn't like running against it, especially when you don't have the counters.
Invasion of the Alpha Quadrant Deck:
This deck takes a turn from how the previous two decks are made. Invading the
other Quadrant takes alot of cards, and patience, as well as being able to slow
your opponent down. However it is all worth it when you launch your invasion and
wipe away all trace of your opponent. The following cards should be put in.
- Establish Dominion Foothold
- Bajorian Wormhole
- Remote Supply Depot
- Lots of ships
- Lots of white
- Lots of Rifles/Pistols
- Jem Hadar - Especially ones with the following skills: Engineering, Officer,
Transporter Skill, Computer Skill, Physics.
- A good number of Vorta, usually a little more than the number of White you
have in your deck.
- Enough White to keep the Jem Hadar supplied - this depends on the number of
ships, number of vorta, number of non-white depended guys are in the deck.
NOTE: I have found an interesting idea with this deck. Use Iconian Gateway + Croden's
Key to knock your way in if your opponent has placed his outpost at a planet.
Or, use Blade of Tkan to move your Armada, as well as the planet, right into the
heart of the Alpha Quadrant.
I hope my article helps you understanding how to play and build the Dominion.
Thank you for reading my article.
