Re: Nitpicky Rogue Borg Mercenaries Question (Major?) ... Major Rakal ... [6/17/99 19:19] |
>*Note: If someone besides the Major can answer this, that's fine. But I'm not sure this question has a definite answer within the rules currently, hence my request for her.
> >In the Glossary under "Rogue Borg", it gives these rules for playing them as a "stack" (so they can all battle together): > >"Rogue Borg can play during the initiation of another Rogue Borg play, or during the initiation of an automatic Rogue Borg battle at start of turn. Each of these Rogue Borg may be responded to individually (e.g., by Amanda Rogers). Once the player has "passed" (finished playing Rogue Borg), the entire group of Rogue Borg may be responded to (e.g., by Hugh)" (emphasis mine). > >My question is this: if the "stacked" RBMs play during the initiation of the previous ones, how can they be responded to individually, since responses occur after initiation is completed (by which time all of them would have been played out)? > >Are they supposed to be played as responses to the previous RBM (and thus, played in the response step) like this? > >Initiate Action: "First RBM" >Optional Responses to "First RBM": Including "Second RBM" > Optional Responses to "Second RBM": Including "Third RBM" > Optional Responses to "Third RBM": Including "Fourth RBM" > etc..., until no more responses to last RBM, and stack of RBMs resolves. This (above) is what it should be. >Or is each individual RBM a "sub-action" of sorts, taking place within the initiation of the action "Group of RBMs" as follows: > >Intiate Action: "Group of RBMs" > Initiate Action: "First RBM" > Optional Responses to "First RBM" > Effects of "First RBM" > Initiate Action: "Second RBM"... > (etc... until all "Nth RBM" actions are resolved) >Optional Responses to "Group of RBMs" >Effects of "Group of RBMs" > >The second option seems more likely (and a lot less headache-inducing in gameplay), but it's not at all clear from the Glossary. Is one of these right? Am I missing something completely obvious? Has this actually been defined at all? Does anyone understand what I'm talking about? How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? The entry should say that an RBM can play "as a response to" the initiation of an RBM play, not "during the initiation of" that play (also as a response to the initiation of a Rogue Borg battle at start of turn). You never can play cards during an initiation of an action, only as responses. As I recall it, the Rogue Borg timing entry was written somewhat before the final timing rules were worked out in their present form, and formed a completely separate rules committee discussion. So the terminology doesn't quite match, and it didn't get brought into line when I compiled the rulebook and glossary. Sorry for the confusion.
