Hello everyone...I am sad to report that our local player base, literally, to a man, has said that they will no longer be playing STCCG because of the 2nd Edition release. They say that they feel their collections/decks to be valueless, and they believe that Decipher will not want to support 1st Edition in the future.
I have gone to some considerable lengths to reach each player by phone and tell them the following ( to paraphrase ): Decipher has told the world that it WILL continue to support the 1st Edition by having compatible cards in each 2nd Edition expansion. Decipher has eliminated the seed phase for 2nd Edition and is promising us an exciting and more interactive game. I, personally, will always continue to be a part of ANY 1st Edition Only player base, if it comes to that, but I truly believe that Decipher is convinced that they have a winner with 2nd Edition and I am going to promote it heavily.
So far, the local player base is at least listening to me. They still avow to never buy another card, but I think that the 2nd Edition will sell itself at demos. Most of these players have agreed to at least come to a demo and see the game...then I'll have them, hook, line, and sinker :)
The local stores, however, are mostly very guarded about their stocking of the game. They all, to a store, have agreed to at least try and sell 2nd Edition, and the stores around here ( haven't talked to Stephen Boyles about up north yet ) are all willing to let me demo the game.
In short, as long as the 2nd Edition IS a game worth playing, then I truly feel the local Seattle player base will buy into it and enjoy it, despite themselves :)
I'd like to know more about WHEN we'll be able to demo the game so I can set appointments up with the local card stores....
