Ambassador Report - September 2002
Region: Ronara - West Texas
Ambassador: Matt Clouser
1. THE STATE OF GAMING IN MY AREA:
Retailer Scene: It is a dark time for the rebellion .... wait, wrong mythos ;) I'm still trying to keep the STCCG scene here afloat since the sudden close of Hard Drive Gaming Center, our local retailer on 31 August. Hard Drive's legal situation with their landlord has worsened, and with their STCCG merchandise tied up in litigation there has been NO sales this month.
CCG Scene: Pretty much dead - I'm working to keep ST alive, and I've heard there is occasional Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh pickup games at Specialties, a local toy store.
2. WHAT I'VE DONE "FOR LOVE OF THE GAME" ....
Tournaments: No tournaments held this month - still trying to land a location.
Tournament Directors: Three santioned TD's - Jerry Jackson, Grant Woodring and myself.
Demos: No demonstrations this month.
3. PROMOTIONAL PLANS FOR NEXT MONTH.
I contacted the manager of the local Hastings superstore about allowing us to play in their cafe area. He was fairly positive about the concept during our first meeting, but wanted to get a feel for his cafe's patronage for a week or so. I've attempted to contact him twice since then, but he has politely declined to talk with me. I have intentionally backed off for several weeks (don't want to annoy him ... yet), but intend to contact him this week as a follow-up.
I remain concerned about my local player base - some have seen this as the death of CCG's here in town. I've made it plain to them that at least STCCG and LOTR are still trying to land on their feet, and have been keeping up with them primarily through emails and phone calls.
4. UPCOMING ACTIVITIES: Looking at running another Warp Speed open play session with the local Science Fiction Club this month - details will solidify once they get a new venue as well.
5. LOCAL RETAILERS/VENUES: NONE!
Until next month - wish me luck!!!!
