Ambassador Report - March 2002
Region: Ronara - West Texas
Ambassador: Matt Clouser
1.The state of gaming in my area:
RETAILER SCENE: No significant change here. Our main retailer (Hard Drive Gaming Center) was closed for two weeks during spring break.
CCG SCENE:
Overall a slow month for CCGs, primarily due to our main retailers two week break.
STCCG: Another slow month for Trek. I had a tournament scheduled for the 23rd - had to reschedule for the 30th when the store closed for vacation - then had to reschedule again since almost no one could attend on Easter weekend. Open gaming sessions have been sparsely attended. As I mentioned last month, there is some excitement about the upcoming Motion Picture Expansion, so my hope is that will help some.
SW/JK/YD: Dead.
LOTR: Interest in LOTR remains high.
Magic: There has been a resurgance of Magic in recent weeks, surpassing LOTR play.
Pokemon: Almost no activity this month - store hoilday may have put the kids off schedule.
2.What I've done "For Love Of The Game" ....
TOURNAMENTS: As mentioned above, I made two abortive attempts to run a tournament this month - it has been rescheduled for 6 April. I will hold this tournament even if I only get one player - ME!!
TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS: Currently two: myself, and Jerry Jackson.
DEMOS: I ran a demo for for the local SciFi Fan Club on March 9th. I had 5 players interested - I built Warp Speed playable decks for all the major affiliations for the event from spare commons & ucommons donated by local players. With one exception, all the players really enjoyed the game. Hopefully, I will get one or two players out of that effort. Donated the decks I built plus a couple rulebooks to the club.
3. Upcoming activities:
Our next event will be a sanctioned constructed deck tournament on the 6th of April, and just found out last night I get to host a Pre-Release here in San Angelo. Woo-Hoo!!!
Until next month!!
